Danny Smith Charges to Victory in OCRS Thriller at Springfield Raceway
Springfield, MO (March 29, 2025) — The AmeriFlex Hose & Accessories Oil Capital Racing Series made its way to Springfield Raceway on Saturday night, bringing high-speed action to the Missouri dirt track. With 16 sprint cars on hand for the first of three scheduled stops in the Show-Me state this season, the night was filled with intense racing, daring slide jobs, and a dramatic shake-up in the main event.
The night’s action began with a pair of heat races, where Kayden Cole claimed victory in the Merak Group Heat 1, while Connor Lee took the win in the Same Day Auto Repair Heat 2. Jack Wagner was the standout mover in Heat 2, earning him high-point honors and the chance to pull the pill for the dash lineup.
In the PuroClean Disaster Restoration Specialists of Oklahoma Dash, Danny Smith started on the pole and never relinquished the top spot, taking the six-lap victory. Alex Sewell, Connor Lee, Kayden Cole, Jack Wagner, and Sheldon Barksdale completed the dash field, setting up the stage for the night’s main event.
When the green flag waved on the AmeriFlex Hose & Accessories A-Feature, Alex Sewell wasted no time taking command from the front row. He led the early portion of the race, fending off intense battles behind him, but the action took a dramatic turn on lap 14 when Fred Mattox grabbed the lead, only to flip in turn four shortly after. Following the red flag, Connor Lee surged to the front on lap 18, looking poised for victory until motor issues forced him out of contention just five laps later.
This opened the door for Danny Smith, who had started on the pole but had fallen back to third earlier in the race. He took over the lead on lap 23 and held strong to the checkered flag, securing the 30-lap feature win. Jack Wagner charged to second place, with early race leader Alex Sewell rounding out the podium in third.
A remarkable drive came from Gage Laney, who stormed through the field from 16th to finish 4th, earning him the Driven Midwest Hard Charger Award for the night.
The OCRS Sprint Cars are back in action next Saturday night, April 5th, at Enid Speedway, where the championship battle will continue.
For fans unable to attend, LIVE and On-Demand streaming is available via Start2Finish at www.s2ftv.com, ensuring you don’t miss a lap of the action.
